The rise of electric transport can no longer be stopped. The demand for new fast charging points is therefore increasing rapidly.

The company NXT50five has unveiled a new fast charging location at the Middenwaard shopping center in Heerhugowaard. This strategic addition is not just a fast charger, but a technological breakthrough in the form of the NXT ChargePost. The ingenious charging system is designed to enable fast charging even in areas suffering from grid congestion, an increasingly common problem where electricity grids become overloaded by the proliferation of electric vehicles.

At this new location it is possible to charge a car with a power of 300 kW or to charge two cars simultaneously with 150 kW each. What stands out is the compatibility with a wide range of common charging cards, including the NXT Mobility Card and the 50five charging card. This makes the fast charging station not only advanced but also accessible to the general public.

Electric transportation is on an upward trend, a move further reinforced by the urgent need for environmentally responsible transportation solutions. But the demand for new charging points is skyrocketing and the electricity grid in many places simply cannot keep up. Grid congestion, as this problem is called, tends to occur in urban areas where electricity demand exceeds available capacity. The Middenwaard shopping center is located exactly in such a zone, which made the installation of traditional fast chargers seem like an impossible task.

NXT ChargePost

This is where the NXT ChargePost comes in as an elegant solution. Functioning as a kind of 'power bank', the system stores electricity when the grid is less loaded and uses this stored energy to supplement charging during peak hours. It is an ingenious response to the limitations of the electricity grid and an illustration of how technological innovation can bridge the gap between infrastructure and growing demand.

The opening of the fast charging location in Middenwaard is the result of a partnership between 50five Group and NXT Mobility, which operate jointly under the name NXT50five. With an ambitious goal in mind—the rollout of a nationwide, publicly accessible fast charging network for both passenger and freight traffic—these companies are using their expertise to be leaders in charging infrastructure.

What makes this collaboration extra interesting is the focus on grid congestion areas. By making smart use of battery-buffered charging systems such as the NXT ChargePost,... NXT50five a promising solution for high-power fast charging where this was previously unthinkable. And it doesn't end at Middenwaard. In the coming months there are plans to further expand the network to as many as 20 public fast charging locations. At a time when the energy transition is becoming increasingly urgent, NXT50five shows that innovation and collaboration are the keys to making this transition not only possible but also accessible.
