Like most Belgian companies, NMBS has to make a lot of efforts to fill the many vacancies year after year.

SNCB announced 1.600 vacancies at the beginning of this year. More than 800 people have already been selected, the majority of whom have already started or will come on board in the coming weeks and months. This means that this year we are still looking for around 800 new employees (m/f/x) for various positions. To fill these vacancies, NMBS is launching a new recruitment campaign. The slogan 'Make the difference at NMBS' refers to one of the most important motivations for starting work at NMBS.

Like most Belgian companies, NMBS has to make a lot of efforts to fill the many vacancies year after year. The good news is that SNCB is clearly gaining popularity on the labor market. During the first three months of this year, she received twice as many applications than in the same period last year.

'Make the difference'

The social impact of a job at NMBS appears to be one of the most important motivations for candidates to apply for a job at NMBS. It is also this motivation that NMBS focuses on with the baseline 'Make the difference at NMBS' in its new recruitment campaign. The campaign, which was launched this week, can be seen and heard online, on the radio and via campaign images in the stations and trains.

1.600 vacancies in 2023: a major challenge in a tight labor market

The vacancies in 2023 are mainly for operational personnel: train conductors and train drivers, technicians for the workshops, security officers at Securail and also personnel in the stations or for customer service. 

There are also vacancies for architects and engineering profiles (such as site managers) or for lesser-known and visible rail jobs, such as those in the bundles: huge parking zones where the trains are prepared for departure.

All these vacancies filling in is not easy in a tight labor market as we know it today in a number of regions. Efforts are being made throughout the year again this year. There is this new recruitment campaign, but job events are also regularly organized. In addition, NMBS is present at many job fairs and collaborates with VDAB, Forem, Actiris and Bruxelles Formation, according to the Belgian railway company.
