The Geertruidenberg politician Albert Smit is guilty of an unauthorized conflict of interest, which writes BN DeStem. Smit, who sits in the city council as a one-man faction, finds the qualification of unreliable 'extremely inappropriate and one-sided', he said during an inserted council meeting on Monday evening. The City Council sees it differently. A large majority withdrew their confidence via a motion.

tender

The investigation concerns Smit's actions in the tender of the student transport of the municipality of Geertruidenberg. In addition, the client offers transport facilities for students on the basis of the Municipality of Geertruidenberg School Transport Regulation. The regulation regulates student transport to schools that fall under the Primary Education Act, the Secondary Education Act and the Expertise Centers Act. The number of students to be transported to which this tender applies was a total of 1 students on the reference date 2021 October 131 and was divided into two lots.

The carrier must, also during the contract, in collaboration with municipality Geertruidenberg, to investigate as much as possible whether and, if so, which combination journeys are possible with other carriers and/or other municipalities, which could lead to cost savings for the municipality. Student transport is available for children who are unable to travel independently to school or the internship address due to a disability. This may involve a physical, mental, sensory or psychological disability.

'not integrity' behavior

The reason was a signal of 'non-integrity' behaviour. BN DeStem also reports that, according to the research by Capro Advocaten, a specialist in labor relations within government, education and healthcare, there is a conflict of interest. Smit works at Taxi Berm, who has been implementing part of the student transport in the municipality of Geertruidenberg for a long time.
