A spokesperson for rail manager ProRail says that due to a nationwide failure with the telephone system, train traffic controllers are unable to communicate with the drivers of transport operators. “That is essential for trains to run, so we have decided to shut down a large part of the country.”
According to ProRail, the provider Mobirail has been scaled up to a maximum capacity in order to discover the fault. As soon as this has been resolved, the ProRail spokesperson expects that passengers will be affected by the disruption for the rest of the day.
ProRail advises travelers to check the app to see which journey is possible. According to NS, there will be no trains until at least 16.00 p.m. and therefore recommends postponing the journey if possible.
