Transport service providers that use PKI certificates are seeing the deadline approaching for replacing digital passports. There is a problem with PKI client certificates that affects a large number of users worldwide. This also affects the Digital Passports that are now in use. Users must replace these with new Digital Passports before October 2020. A compliance issue has occurred in the PKI system of Digital Passports, which has created a security risk.

Peter Mols (director): “This problem has absolute force majeure on the Digidentity side. The chosen solution was developed quickly and after constructive consultation. ”

This has effects for users (e.g. financial advisers, employees at insurers) and online service providers (e.g. insurers, service providers, but also service providers such as CIS and Solera). This issue is global and affects a large number of certificates in circulation and affects many certificate suppliers. The primary solution to the problem that has arisen is to switch to a new Digital Passport.

exchange necessary

All current Digital Passports must be exchanged before October 1, 2020. Digidentity will inform those involved about the switch. Administrative preparation will start in August 2020, the actual switch will take place in September. The aforementioned preparation involves creating a Digidentity account. This has the advantage that switching in September can be more efficient.

If parties have already planned to switch to the combination medicine before 1 October 2020 with eHerkenning, in addition to a new Digital Passport, there is no additional need for this exchange process to be completed. Nothing changes for online service providers (such as insurers). In any case, these should be ready as of 1 September to accept the new DigitalPassports. The issue that has arisen again proves the need to switch to eHerkenning and after the to say goodbye to Digital Passports.
