Recognized youth movements can again travel this summer with a bus from De Lijn to their bivouac place. Thanks to the intervention of the Flemish Government, they only pay 1,60 euros per traveler (group ticket). This discount rate also applies if De Lijn has to submit a reinforcement trip.

Flemish Minister for Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open Vld) and Flemish Minister of Youth Benjamin Dalle (CD&V), together with De Lijn, are committed to this initiative. In this way they offer youth movements practical, affordable and above all sustainable transport to and from their summer camp (from 1 July to 2 September).

Support for youth movements

Flemish Minister for Mobility Lydia Peeters:

In 2019, no fewer than 210 trips in the context of camp transport were provided by the Flemish Transport Company De Lijn. The previous Flemish government has therefore decided to anchor the camp transport in the fixed offer. For young people who are not yet familiar with De Lijn's services, this is an excellent opportunity to sample their safe and sustainable public transport. As Minister of Mobility, I am delighted that the department can contribute to a fun summer for young people in these special circumstances. The safety regulations remain the same as on regular transport. ”

From 1 July to 2 September, recognized youth movements can take advantage of this inexpensive formula: there is a stop at your campsite nearby and you travel in a group of less than 45 people, then you can use a landline. Reservations are not necessary, but Minister Lydia Peeters emphasizes that the supervisors must use their common sense and split up groups if necessary.

“With a large group of young people it will be more difficult to keep a distance on the bus. That is why it is important in the first instance that everyone is required to wear his or her mouth mask. In the second instance, I look to the supervisors to split up a group if possible. ”

With a group ticket you pay only 1,60 euros per traveler. The group ticket must be purchased in advance at the Lijnwinkel, because you can no longer pay with cash on the bus itself. Of course you can also travel with other tickets, for example a Buzzy Pazz or Lijnkaart.

Corona trial

According to the Flemish Government, the safety regulations for camp transport are the same as those for regular public transport. In other words, everyone over the age of 12 must wear a mouth mask. Before they set off by bus and tram, youth movements should also take a closer look delijn.be/vonderdelenveilig for the most recent guidelines regarding Covid-19.
