De Lijn is ready for it: tram buses will be used on line 28 from Sunday 2020 June 820. With the introduction of the tram bus, De Lijn is bringing high-quality public transport to the northern edge of Brussels. The route of the Ringtrambus runs along important attractions including the UZ in Jette, Strombeek, the center and station of Vilvoorde, Brucargo and the international airport of Zaventem.During the quiet holiday months, the Ringtrambus runs every 30 minutes, from September it will be every XNUMX minutes. The Ringtrambus takes its name from the unique combination of the maneuverability of a bus and the comfort of a tram.

A lot of work has been carried out in recent months to make a 24-meter-long trambus run safely in the Flemish periphery around Brussels. “Safety was not only considered when maneuvering,” says Marc Descheemaecker, chairman of the Board of Directors of De Lijn. “Safety and comfort for the traveler were also given full attention. New stops were built at the end points of the line 820 at UZ Brussel in Jette and at Brussels Airport International Airport.

The platforms were constructed in such a way that travelers can wait comfortably and get in and out quickly and safely. ” Stops at other locations were also improved so that passengers can get in and out of the vehicle through the various doors. Most striking are the new tram bus stops in the Strombeeklinde in Strombeek-Bever or at Zaventem airport.

In order to be able to drive smoothly through all streets, De Werkvennootschap has carried out road works tailored to the tram buses. Work is also underway on separate bus lanes. The intention is that the Ring tram bus gets a little faster and more efficient every year.

The new home for the 14 tram buses is being finalized on the Schaerbeeklei in Vilvoorde. In addition to the existing depot of De Lijn, the former car inspection will be converted into a depot. Here the 14 tram buses can be overnight, washed, refueled and maintained.
