Flames on the runway, but all passengers safe after collision at Haneda.

A dramatic incident has rocked Tokyo's Haneda Airport. A Japan Airlines passenger plane caught fire after colliding at the airport. Japanese broadcaster NHK was the first to report the news. According to TBS, another news channel, all passengers from the plane have been evacuated. A spokesperson for Japan Airlines confirmed that 379 passengers were on board at the time of the fire.

Fire and rescue workers rushed to the scene to battle the flames and evacuate passengers. Japanese media, including TBS, showed images of passengers leaving the plane via an emergency slide. The incident occurred after a collision between Japan Airlines Flight 516, coming from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, and a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft.

Five Coast Guard members in the other aircraft were killed. A sixth occupant, the captain, was able to escape but is in critical condition.

All passengers have been safely evacuated, but no information is yet available about any injuries. The evacuation images emphasize the seriousness of the situation, but also the efficient action of crew and emergency services. The cause of the collision is still unclear and is being further investigated.  

Haneda Airport, one of the busiest in Asia, is a major hub for both domestic and international flights. The tension among family and friends of passengers and crew is palpable as people wait for more information. There is much sympathy for those involved in this tragic incident.
