Improved public transport plays a crucial role in this plan.

Almere, a city that recently struggled with the disappointing world horticultural exhibition Floriade, finally has reason to cheer again. Almere City FC, the local football club, has managed to achieve a historic promotion to the Eredivisie after a victory over FC Emmen, as a result of which the latter relegates. This promotion to the highest level of Dutch football once again puts the city in the spotlight and highlights an ambitious mobility plan.

The city council and Almere City FC have set the goal of encouraging visitors to the Yanmar Stadium to use sustainable means of transport as much as possible, including the allGo city buses. This initiative is part of a wider plan to improve traffic flow on match days and increase the sustainability of the city.

“At Almere City FC we want to look beyond just the football field. We have a responsibility to consider our impact on the community and this promotion gives us the perfect opportunity to make a positive contribution to the sustainability of the city,” said a club spokesman.

Improved public transport plays a crucial role in this plan. Travelers in Almere can now check in and out of the allGo and R-net buses with their debit card, credit card or mobile phone, making the use of an OV chip card superfluous. This should make public transport more accessible and user-friendly for both residents and visitors.

With the combination of these measures, Almere City FC hopes to take a step towards a more sustainable future, while at the same time improving the fans' experience on match days. While the city is still recovering from the disappointment of the Floriade, the promotion of Almere City FC to the Eredivisie offers both the club and the city a chance to start over and create something to be proud of.

In a milestone for the club, Almere City FC secured its first-ever promotion to the Eredivisie on Sunday. Thanks to a 2-1 victory over FC Emmen in an away match, promotion was a fact. This was a wide margin, as the previous home game had already ended with a solid 2-0 win.

Rajiv van La Parra and Jorrit Smeets were the stars of the day, each scoring a goal for the Almere club. Their success on the field unfortunately meant relegation from the Eredivisie for FC Emmen after just one season.

The revelry in Almere was intense as this promotion marks a historic achievement for the club, which has risen steadily through the ranks of Dutch football since its formation in 2001. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of players, staff and fans and is an achievement the city of Almere can be proud of.
