Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN), Amstelveen-Amstelland department, and the municipality of Amstelveen have decided to organize additional refresher courses this autumn.
The town hall recently hosted the free refresher driving skills course for the elderly (65+) for the first time after the corona pandemic. The enthusiasm during the registration period was so great that many Amstelveners ended up on a waiting list. That is why Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN), Amstelveen-Amstelland department, and the municipality of Amstelveen have decided to organize additional refresher courses this autumn.
During the two-day refresher course on driving skills, participants are updated on the latest traffic rules. This morning was the first of two days of training. Alderman Herbert Raat (traffic) provided the opening and addressed the more than forty people present in the council chamber. He also thanked former alderman Joss Tabak who is organizing the course together with the VVN with a bunch of flowers.
“We think it is very important that the elderly in Amstelveen can update themselves about new traffic rules and situations in this accessible way. The course contributes to road safety. It is therefore good to see that there is so much interest in participating in the refresher course. I would like to thank Joss for her unbridled commitment to the elderly in Amstelveen.”
About the course
An expert traffic instructor informs the participants about all the traffic rules that have changed over the years. They also receive tips for more economical and environmentally friendly driving. The theory course is intended for the elderly (65+) from Amstelveen and consists of two sessions of two hours. Participants receive a theory book. During the first day of the course, you can sign up for a driving skills test with a recognized driving instructor in your own car and environment. The theoretical meetings and practical ride are informative in nature. There is no exam.
Participation
As soon as it is known when the next refresher courses will take place, people on the waiting list will be notified by VVN department Amstelveen-Amstelland, according to the municipality.
