The mobility organizations De Boom en het Meer and Breikers are carrying out the e-bike trial campaign that will last from early May to October 2023 for the municipality.

The municipality of Amstelveen offers residents the opportunity to borrow an e-bike or e-cargo bike for free for two weeks for commuting. The action that started last Thursday via social media has been such a great success that the bicycles were reserved for the entire period within two days. The municipality is now looking at possibilities to extend or expand the trial. Reservations can be made again soon. The aim of the trial is to get workers out of their cars and onto their bicycles for short distances.

“We would like to see more Amstelveners abandon their car for short distances, such as for commuting. With the electric bicycle you are often even faster than with the car or public transport. Using means of transport other than the car is good for the accessibility of Amstelveen and for road safety. In addition, exercise is of course good for health. The success of this promotion shows that many commuters are eager to try an e-bike to work. That is why we are now looking at how we can expand the trial campaign.”
