A truck carrying brand new passenger cars braked at a traffic light during heavy rain.
In a spectacular accident near the intersection of the Stoepestraat with the expressway N49 towards Knokke in Assenede, a truck lost its load in a very spectacular way on Saturday morning around 10.00 am. The truck drove behind a car that suddenly braked at the orange traffic light in the lane to turn towards Assenede.
The truck driver who was transporting brand new passenger cars braked at the traffic light during heavy rain to avoid his predecessor, but lost one of the cars he was transporting. The brand new Volvo slid along the front of the truck, fell and landed in the rear window of the predecessor.
As a result of the collision and the hoisting work, traffic in the direction of Knokke had to use one lane. The ambulance brothers did come to the accident, but everyone was released with a fright.
Stoepestraat intersection
The N49 expressway is one infamous road. Every few months there is a serious traffic accident at one of the intersections, which the Agency for Roads and Traffic is gradually eliminating. The accident occurred on narrowed lanes as a result of work being carried out for the construction of the bridge.
The work, which will cost more than 10 million euros, must be completed by the summer of 2023. This means that another black intersection will disappear and the Flemish government will slowly but surely convert the express road into a motorway.
