Often it is presented in a way that seems too good to be true.

Market consultation is gaining in popularity every year. This is apparent from a 5-year review of the Procurement Act and on the basis of TenderNed data. In the revised Procurement Act, contracting authorities have more flexibility in applying the procurement procedures. As a result, they can better match supply and demand and place orders on the market more efficiently. The more the client knows about the market, the more effective his request can be.

One way to get to know the market better is through a market consultation. In the top 5 of the most number of market consultations are software and information systems, software development, internet and support. When we control the CPV codes, planning systems and software advice are paramount. We see a similar trend continuing in the first half of 2022. Up to 1 July of this year, 630 market consultations were published. It is striking that more and more transport companies are starting up internal software development themselves.

Let the market work for you

The taxi industry was turned upside down by Uber years ago. Perhaps inspired by the under attack technology giant, more and more transport companies and control centers think that they should start their own software development to develop apps or build their own planning packages. It seems more and more that the revenue model in the taxi sector has hit rock bottom to such an extent that 'expected' cutbacks in the costs of the software are the only way to bring a successful tender to a successful conclusion.

The costs of developing a custom application vary enormously. A small software application can easily cost a few thousand euros. On average, the costs of your own custom app are between 10.000 and 50.000 euros, but there are also plenty of applications for which the investment is more than 100.000 euros. That is why it is important to think carefully about what you want in advance and it pays to get started yourself.

Developing business software abroad can therefore cause many problems and frustration.

If you do not want to get started yourself, you can call on foreign IT companies that often offer lower hourly rates than in the Netherlands. Often it is presented in a way that seems too good to be true. It makes sense that many companies are considering it. Developing business software abroad can therefore cause many problems and frustration. The largest providers are mainly Asian countries, with India as the frontrunner. The IT supply is also growing from the Eastern bloc.

outsourcing

Outsourcing is the development of software by others abroad. Rate is certainly not the only factor that determines the final cost. Quality is just as important. Knowing the local market and understanding needs and being able to fulfill them with valuable technical solutions is the most important factor determining whether a project is successful or not. Think carefully about whether this can be found across the border for your project. Knowing that, working with a somewhat more expensive Dutch developer not so crazy!
