We have already achieved a lot, but we are not there yet.

One of the major annoyances of residents are souped-up cars and motorcycles that drive laps or have street races on summer days. Such behavior also leads to unsafe situations. That is why the police is committed to complying with the traffic rules. For example, she measures the noise level of cars and motorcycles with a device called Noise Patrol. This is happening in Scheveningen during targeted actions such as an integrated enforcement action, but also on other days. Noise patrol is a sound level meter, which is calibrated and approved to determine the noise level of a motor vehicle.

It is currently difficult to maintain. The Scheveningen police have trained ten people to operate the sound level meter. Only the police infrastructure department can fine noise nuisance, but it takes a lot of time to carry out a check and must be planned far in advance. With a so-called Noise Patrol, the police and BOAs are no longer dependent on the Infrastructure Service. They can then carry out traffic checks themselves and immediately enforce noise nuisance.

The Scheveningen police use the Noise Patrol

In the coming period, the colleagues of the Scheveningen basic team will use the noise patrol more often to combat noise pollution from motor vehicles. This is also part of the integrated action plan of the municipality of The Hague to tackle nuisance on the boulevard of Scheveningen. To ensure that traffic nuisance in the summer and other nuisance in Scheveningen is further reduced, the Municipality of The Hague will continue the action plan in 2022. Measures that proved successful last year will be repeated next beach season. For example, we will continue the flexible deployment of enforcers and traffic controllers, the prevention of noise violations with the Noise Patrol and other enforcement actions.
