Brabant will simply celebrate the 11th of the 11th next Thursday. The traditional opening of the carnival season on November 11 can continue, but restrictive measures are in place due to corona. This is apparent from a tour Friday along security regions and municipalities in Brabant.

Unlike in Limburg, Brabant does not have a central kick-off. The local celebrations take place in enclosed spaces, so anyone wishing to participate must present a QR code at the entrance.

The party on the Grote Markt is only canceled in Breda, because the municipality is afraid that it will get too busy there. An alternative is still being sought.

Fences and corona tickets

The mayors of the individual municipalities do have the power to revoke the permit, said a spokeswoman for the Central and West Brabant Security Region. She also confirmed that the 11th of the 11th can take place throughout Brabant. A spokeswoman for the Brabant Noord Safety Region said that the parties fall within the safety margin of the corona measures and can therefore continue with restrictions.

The opening celebration of the carnival season can be celebrated outdoors and indoors on Thursday. Outside, fences are placed around the party spot and corona tickets are used. There is also a maximum number of visitors, with a maximum of 75 percent of what can normally go to that place.

All wristbands for the festivities organized by the catering industry have already been sold before the 11th of the 11th in Den Bosch, according to a spokesperson for the municipality. There too, the party takes place inside or outside in a gated area with corona access control. Parts of the center are closed with fences, the number of visitors is limited. Enforcers from the municipality ensure that the corona check goes well at the entrances.

Eindhoven will also let the party continue. However, the 11th of the 11th is on a smaller scale and is celebrated in bars and concert halls, with corona-limiting measures.

In Limburg, the provincial kick-off of the 11th of the 11th in Roermond was canceled on Thursday. The Limburg North Security Region finds the risks of spreading the virus too great, despite QR code checks, and fears an overload of care.
