The demand for new mopeds and mopeds (scooters) will also remain high in 2021. Over the first half of 2021, a total of 39.455 new mopeds and mopeds were registered. The highest number since 2011 and an increase of 8,7 percent compared to the first six months in 2020 (36.305 units). 1/3 of all newly sold scooters are now fully electrically powered. This is apparent from figures from the RAI Association and RDC.

More and more people are opting for the comfort and convenience of a scooter. Despite the fact that more and more people are vaccinated and can move freely, people continue to move individually in large numbers. Three quarters of all new scooters sold are mopeds and mopeds. The number of registrations last June decreased slightly compared to June 2020. Last month, 8.774 scooters were registered, of which 6.337 mopeds and 2.437 mopeds. A decrease of 11,9 percent.

Electric
When choosing a moped or moped, an electric variant is increasingly being chosen. 35,2% of all new mopeds are now electrically powered. This puts the sector on track to stop offering new petrol mopeds from 2025 and to focus entirely on electric. The mopeds are also electrifying quickly; 29,4 percent of new sales are electric. In total, more than 94.617 electric scooters are now driving around, 7,2 percent of the total (1.322.577).

Ideal solution for short and medium distances
According to the RAI Association, more and more people see the value of a scooter for their travel needs. The scooter is an ideal means of transport for short and medium distances up to approximately 25 to 30 kilometers. The average commuting distance is 19 kilometres, with which the modern moped and moped offer a sustainable alternative for both private and business use. Royal RAI Association.
