Due to the consequences of the corona crisis, there is less traffic on Dutch roads. Nevertheless, accidents often still occur and there are road deaths and injuries. Figures from Statistics Netherlands show that a total of 2019 people died in traffic accidents in 661. Of these, 465 men and 196 women were the fatal victims. Last year, a total of 610 people were killed in road accidents. That is a difference of 51 fewer road deaths last year compared to 2019 and the lowest number since 2015.

Of the 610 road deaths last year, 453 men and 157 women were the fatal victims. Of the 610 road deaths last year, 229 were cyclists, 195 car occupants, 44 motorcyclists, 41 pedestrians, 34 mobility scooters, 33 moped and light-moped riders, 23 occupants of a delivery van and truck and 11 fatalities are covered by the category other.

From this Numbers it appears that the most fatalities were cyclists, 229 cyclists were fatal in 2020 and in 2019 this was 203. It is also striking that half of the fatal road traffic victims are 60 years or older. In 2020 there were 306 fatalities 60 years or older and in 2019 there were 324 fatalities 60 years or older.

Most fatalities occurred in the province of Noord-Brabant. In 2019 there were 142 fatalities in Noord-Brabant and last year there were 99. The fewest fatalities were in the province of Flevoland, in 2019 there were 16 fatalities and last year there were 10. Most fatalities in the Netherlands traffic fell in weeks 25 to 28 last year (June 15 to July 12), in 2019 in the same weeks there were 10 fewer.
