Today the time has finally come, the vaccination against the corona virus has started. 2 days earlier than actually planned. We have had to wait a long time and are the last country in the European Union to start vaccinating today. This is currently causing a lot of discussion among our cabinet and the population. First, it is the turn of care workers from nursing homes and small-scale housing and care workers in direct COVID care. This includes nurses and doctors in intensive care, ambulance staff, emergency care and the COVID-19 ward. This is done because more and more healthcare workers are becoming ill and drop out due to the corona virus and the situation is therefore becoming increasingly worrisome in healthcare. The employees of the nursing homes and small-scale housing are vaccinated at the GGD injection locations in Veghel. The healthcare workers of the direct COVID care are vaccinated in the hospitals.

From Friday 8 January this is also possible in Houten and Rotterdam and from Monday 11 January The Hague, Amsterdam and Drenthe will follow. From 15 January, all 25 injection sites of the GGD in the Netherlands have been opened for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines. After vaccinating employees of nursing homes and employees from the direct COVID care, it is the turn of care employees in the district nursing, the disabled care and WMO support, according to the national government. It RIVM reports that approximately 269.000 invitation letters have been sent to care workers at nursing homes and small-scale housing as of last Monday. From January 18, a maximum of 66.000 healthcare workers per week can be vaccinated at different locations, according to the RIVM. It remains to be seen when exactly the rest of the Netherlands will receive a vaccination.
