The corona crisis is far from over, unfortunately. This has enormous consequences for companies worldwide. The aviation industry, among others, has been greatly affected, many people prefer not to travel in these uncertain times. The number of passengers has decreased significantly compared to last year. The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reports today on their website that in the third quarter of this year there are more than three quarters fewer air passengers at Dutch airports than last year. For many countries, our government has an orange travel advice, this means that travel is only recommended if it is really necessary. Sweden, Germany, Portugal and Greece are one of the few countries in Europe where code yellow currently still applies.

From July to September this year, there were about 17,6 million fewer travelers than the same period last year. Last year from July to September this was about 23,1 million travelers. This is a decrease of no less than 76,3 percent compared to the same period last year. In July, August and September nearly 5,5 million passengers traveled from the 5 different Dutch airports.

This Dutch airports are Amsterdam Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Maastricht Aachen Airport and Groningen Airport Eelde. Of the 5,5 million passengers who took the plane in July, August and September, 4,5 million left via Amsterdam Schiphol. The second quarter this year was even worse than the third quarter. The number of passengers in the months of April, May and June were 0,8 million travelers. In the same period last year, this was 21,8 million travelers. The increase in the number of travelers can be explained by the relaxation of the corona measures last summer.
