Between 3 July and 9 August, ProRail will work on the track in the vicinity of Geldermalsen. For example, new tracks are being constructed, a platform will be added at Geldermalsen station, a passenger tunnel will be installed and level crossings will be replaced by an underpass under the track. This creates more space on the track between Amsterdam and Eindhoven to accommodate the growing number of travelers. 

After the work, NS will immediately start a new timetable on the Sprinter routes Utrecht - Geldermalsen - Tiel / 's Hertogenbosch. The new timetable improves travel time between the eastern Betuwe and Utrecht through a shorter transfer in Tiel. It can be ten minutes shorter compared to 2019. During the activities travelers are temporarily confronted with longer travel times and local residents may experience noise pollution. The travel advice is to travel between 's-Hertogenbosch and Schiphol Airport / Amsterdam Central via Breda / Rotterdam Central and between' s-Hertogenbosch and Zwolle via Arnhem or to use replacement buses that are used by NS and Qbuzz.

what do the activities involve?

The Merwifte line, between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen, will have its own separate track in Tricht and Geldermalsen. This way, the Qbuzz trains no longer have to cross the busy track between Utrecht and Den Bosch. A number of platforms will also be expanded at Geldermalsen station and a new passenger tunnel will be built. At both the Nieuwesteeg and the Lingedijk, level crossings will be replaced by an underpass under the railway.

In addition, a new bypass will be created around Tricht so that freight traffic, which due to its height cannot use the new underpasses, will have a connection between the eastern and western part of the village center. Where the perimeter road crosses the track, a third underpass is made higher than the other two.
