The Dutch airline Corendon, like many others in the travel world, is in trouble because of the corona crisis. In an interview with the AD, CEO Steven van der Heijden of airline Corendon says that they were on their way to the best year ever in terms of margins and bookings, until the corona virus came around the corner. They have received government support to survive.

“We need the banks to help us through the toughest period. We are negotiating extra credits, this is an arrangement whereby the overheid for large companies guarantees 80 percent. It is not the case that we receive this financing automatically. We must demonstrate that we are viable ”.

Airline Corendon is going to fire about a quarter of their employees, this is about 100 people. They must do this to cut costs if they are to survive this crisis. According to van der Heijden, the employees who are fired first immediately will also be the first to be hired at Corendon again when the weather picks up. Corendon previously announced that they will join forces with holiday park Europarcs. Travelers who have received a voucher because their trip cannot continue because of the corona crisis, can also hand in their voucher for a stay at one of the fourteen Dutch resorts. Van der Heijden is proud of the collaboration with Europarcs and is pleased to be able to offer travelers an alternative this summer during the corona crisis.

“Because our resorts are spread across the country, the customer can choose in which region he wants to spend his vacation. Hopefully for many people, by accepting the vouchers, we take away their holiday worries. We see this collaboration as taking our social responsibility in this difficult time for everyone, ”declare Wim and Wouter Vos on behalf of the EuroParcs management.
