The campsites and holiday parks are happy with the relaxing measures. Everyone will soon be able to 'just' camp in the Netherlands again. According to earlier plans, the sanitary facilities at campsites in the Netherlands would only reopen on 1 July. You could go there in recent weeks, but the sanitary facilities had been closed to guests for months. You just had to stick to the one and a half meter rule. In recent weeks, guests had to come with a camper or caravan with their own sanitary facilities.

“We have just been called by the Ministry of Economic Affairs with the announcement that we can open earlier than 1 July,” says Geert Dijks director HISWA-RECRON. “We have been working hard on this with many members recently. In this way, the entrepreneurs are just enjoying a bit of the preseason. ”

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate reports that the campsites and holiday parks may open two weeks earlier. From 15 June, holidaymakers will again be able to use the communal toilets and showers at the Dutch holiday parks and campsites. Holiday parks and campsites must, however, comply with strict industry protocols. Geert Dijks director of Hiswa-Recron (entrepreneurs' organization for companies in water sports and recreation) says he is happy with the early opening but also wonders why it is not possible earlier, because this weekend will be beautiful camping weather.

Geert Dijks: “We have yet to receive the official letter, but what I don't understand is why we can't open the buildings tomorrow. If it can open June 15, why can't it now? The next weekend will be nice weather and otherwise the sector will miss out ”.

According to Hiswa Recron the damage from the corona crisis to date has already risen to at least 140 million euros for the campsites. Some 1,6 million overnight stays have been canceled. The reason the government has brought up the date is because the borders are opening up again, and foreign tourists are expected. What also counts in the early opening is that the OMT has said that higher humidity in showers is probably not ensures that the coronavirus is spread even more, the one and a half meter rule remains very important.
