The City of Ghent, together with De Lijn, Police Ghent and Brandweerzone Centrum, has given the healthcare staff an original boost. Sint-Pietersplein was not chosen by chance: after all, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Rive care residence is nearby, which has been hit hard by the corona virus.

Not coincidentally on Sint-Pietersplein: nearby is the care residence Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Rive, hit hard by the corona virus. The City of Ghent, De Lijn, Ghent Police and Fire Brigade Zone Center supplied vehicles that provide assistance to the people of Ghent in these corona times. Various fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles, buses and trucks formed one big heart, together with the acronym Ghent and a reference to the 1,5 meter distance that people must keep.

“A very nice action and a big thank you to all aid and care providers who work daily for our society. The race has not yet been run, it remains important to observe the guidelines and to keep the much-needed distance," said mayor Mathias De Clercq.

The location was no coincidence Saint Peters Square. After all, the care residence Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Rive is nearby, which has been hit hard by the corona virus. In normal circumstances, residents and staff can always enjoy the many concerts and other activities on the square. They are no longer there. The action is therefore also intended to support the staff and residents of Ter Rive and all other residential care centers in Ghent. A video of the action has also been distributed on social media.

“The City of Ghent, Ghent Police, Fire Service Zone Center and De Lijn work together to ensure that the many events in Ghent run smoothly. Now that no events can take place, they pay tribute to the care providers in Ghent together," said Annelies Storms, alderman of Feesten en Evenementen.
