Greenpeace states that a helping hand from the government to KLM is not possible without additional conditions. Air France-KLM airline will soon hear whether they will be financially supported by the French and Dutch governments. According to the press a loan amount of no less than 10 billion euros, according to the French newspaper La Tribune.

Milieudefensie, Natuur en Milieufederatie Noord-Holland, Natuur & Milieu and Greenpeace believe that the impact of aviation on the planet is so great that agreements must be made with KLM to lower that impact. They want conditions to be set for financial support to ensure cleaner and quieter aviation and less damage to the climate, people and nature.

“KLM is now relying heavily on support from our government. That while the airline does not pay tax on kerosene and also does not pay VAT on airline tickets. The aviation sector is also outside of climate policy. Now that the government wants to help KLM and its employees in this uncertain period, it is time to make concrete agreements with the airline company, ”says Greenpeace Netherlands.

They believe that an exception is too often made for the aviation sector. KLM does not pay tax on kerosene and does not pay VAT on airline tickets and the aviation sector is also not covered by climate policy. The environmental organizations are calling on the cabinet to make agreements about the future in exchange for financial aid, besides arguing that employees should keep their jobs for less noise and air pollution and they want less CO2 emissions.
