Public transport in Limburg will become a bit more sustainable from the end of June. Public transport company Arriva will from then on deploy 55 new electric buses in the province.

The carrier Arriva has been driving 2016 electric buses in Limburg since 30. From June 55, XNUMX new buses will be added. According to the carrier, this ensures that almost fifty percent of all buses in Limburg will be electric.

As in many other Dutch regions, the electric buses are supplied by bus manufacturer VDL. Buses are being built for Arriva with a battery capacity of 180 kilowatt hours.

The buses are also used on regional bus lines.

“We are now making this step towards electric transport in the region. This is unique because silent, clean and comfortable transport is no longer only available to the traveler in the city. The longer travel distance makes comfort for the traveler extra important ”, says Anne Hettinga, chairman of the board of Arriva Nederland.

Limburg public transport must be delivered completely emission-free from 2026. This requirement is included in an increasing number of tenders. The requirement already applies in Amsterdam, Friesland and Brabant, among others.
