After the success of the trial, the NS has decided to offer this form of discount on many more routes.

A striking measure is the expansion of the NS Price Time Deal, where travelers can purchase cheaper train tickets when booking early. This offer, which had previously been introduced on some routes such as between Groningen and Utrecht, is now being expanded to several NS routes. The discount on these tickets can be up to sixty percent of the standard price for a single journey.

The amount of the discount depends on how long it takes until the departure of the train. This measure is mainly aimed at journeys during off-peak hours, but the NS is considering adjusting the discount in the future based on the expected busyness of a journey.

No subscription required, but a discount of up to 60% as long as you choose a quiet train in advance.

These innovative discount tickets are designed to make traveling during less busy hours more economical. The core of this initiative is the simple, yet crucial condition: travelers must purchase their ticket at least one day in advance for a quiet train.

These new discount tickets are an extension of previous NS initiatives, such as the NS Voordeel ticket, which was offered on three routes in the past two years. During this period, travelers received a discount if they chose a quiet train. After the successful pilot with this ticket, the NS is now expanding the trial to many more routes. The goal is to gain more experience with this form of discount, while at the same time making train travel cheaper in a smart way. This prevents busy trains from becoming overloaded.

The amount of the discount depends on the time at which the ticket is purchased; Earlier purchase results in higher discounts, which can be up to 60 percent. Initially, only trains during off-peak hours were eligible for this discount. However, NS has plans to further specify the discount, depending on the expected crowds on the trains. This would mean that in the future travelers will also be able to enjoy discounts on quiet trains outside off-peak hours.

The NS PrijsTijd Deals are easy to find in the NS Travel Planner. From now on, the discount ticket is available on all routes where there are sufficient quiet trains. This approach not only offers travelers a more economical travel option, but also contributes to more efficient use of train capacity, especially during peak times.
