The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management has decided to introduce online renewal of driving licenses nationwide.
Renewing the driving license online is already possible at 250 of all 342 Dutch municipalities. Drivers' license holders like that they can apply for the extension quickly and at any time.
Easier and better
More and more municipalities are joining the online driving license renewal. The purpose of online renewal: a simple and fast way of applying for citizens, municipalities and the RDW, better quality photos on driving licenses and the prevention of fraud. Many applications take place outside the opening hours of the municipalities and relatively often during the weekend.

Search participating municipalities
After the connection of Hilversum, 250 municipalities are currently participating. In affiliated municipalities, an average of 30% of citizens make use of the option to renew their driving license online. Nationwide
The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management has decided to introduce online renewal of driving licenses nationwide. The ministry is trying to have the amendment take effect at the end of 2024. 250 municipalities that did not want to wait until 2024 are already connected. It remains possible to renew the driving license at a municipal counter.
