In 2014, 54 waste collectors signed the Green Deal Zero Emission City Logistics.

As of February 27, 2023, the OpenWaste logo will be seen more often in the streets, with Venlo next. A great milestone for the collaboration as well as for the companies. The company is a cooperative partnership of several waste collectors. No longer drive into the city separately with your own collection vehicles, but have it carried out collectively by one neutral vehicle. OpenWaste is a cooperative partnership of twelve Dutch waste collectors.

Basically, the collectors are competitors who collect separately from each other. With this collective, they will cooperate with each other in the operation with the ultimate goal: emission-free city logistics throughout the Netherlands, starting in Venlo. The short-term gain for Venlo is the decrease in traffic, noise nuisance and the reduction of harmful emissions from the waste collection vehicles.

“We have one Mother Earth and we have to be careful with that. We are very happy that we are going to start and that also in our hometown of Venlo!”.

In 2014, 54 waste collectors signed the Green Deal Zero Emission City Logistics. The aim is to realize emission-free city logistics from a joint effort. OpenWaste® is a concrete solution and a step towards this goal.

unique collective

OpenWaste® has set itself the goal of having implemented no less than 2025 inner cities by 40. The 12 members cannot do this alone, says Thijs Pennink, chairman OpenWaste®: “Our target is so strong because we want to accelerate our work towards emission-free collection. That is why we warmly invite other collection companies to join us. This applies to both private and public organisations”.

Thanks to this initiative, traffic is reduced and harmful emissions (CO2, NOx and particulate matter) are significantly reduced. It is an important and effective step that should eventually lead to zero-emission city logistics by 2025.
