The NKC has launched a CO2 calculator on its website, which motor home owners can use to calculate the CO2 emissions of a motorhome trip. Not only the kilometers, but also the stay and activities at the destination are included in the calculation of this ecological footprint. Based on the measurement result, the tool also provides practical tips on energy-efficient alternatives that are good for both the planet and the wallet.
It also allows motor home owners to compare the CO2 emissions of a trip with those of other modes of travel. The NKC CO2 calculator is part of the sustainability program with which the NKC focuses primarily on the theme of cleaner driving in 2022. The online tool was developed in collaboration with the information organization Milieu Centraal.
"Measuring is knowing. Because the CO2 calculator provides insight into the impact on the environment, the tool helps motorhome owners to make greener choices. By starting cleaner driving today and camping in a more environmentally conscious way, together we can make a difference at the end of the journey for the generation of motorhomes of tomorrow. The ultimate goal is therefore a healthy, green and CO2-neutral camper climate. That is ambitious and we realize that there is still a long way to go, but at the NKC we would like to stimulate the first kilometers towards that goal. We are therefore pleased that we have found a partner with the same ambition in Milieu Centraal.”
“The tool that we have specially set up for motor home owners together with the NKC provides insight into the options they have to reduce the climate impact and fuel consumption. In addition to the benefits of energy-efficient driving for the planet, it also leads to lower costs. Smooth driving can save up to 10 percent fuel. You can drive economically, for example, by switching up early, not exceeding 100 kilometers per hour and driving at a constant speed as much as possible. The calculator also provides advice on such energy- and cost-saving alternatives during the transport, accommodation and activities of a motorhome trip.”
