Fare fare on the bus took extreme forms in corona time.

During the campaign, inspectors from transport company De Lijn checked 907 passengers for a valid ticket last weekend. 217 of them, almost a quarter, turned out to be fare dodgers and were fined for this. Fare fare on the bus took extreme forms in corona time. According to Gazet van Antwerpen, the Tilburg-Turnhout route was checked. These public buses are often used for so-called drug tourism, whereby drug users in the Netherlands go to stock up with narcotics and then return by public bus. The Turnhout region police carried out the check together with the Immigration Department and the De Lijn transport company.

In all, almost a thousand people were checked. During the control campaign, the police drew up 22 official reports for the possession or import and export of narcotics. One of the persons checked was also in possession of a prohibited weapon. In the Netherlands, too, a sample recently showed that 20 percent of boarding students now do not check in, whereas previously this was only 5 percent. Social control has disappeared and the fare dodgers are not only the ones you might expect, but also the neat people in suits and suits.

If you do not have a valid ticket, you are in violation. In the case of fare evasion on public transport, the obligation to provide identification applies to persons from the age of 12. The inspector has the right to stop you and ask for your identity information for the processing of the official report. You don't only do fare evasion if you haven't bought a ticket. You also drive undeclared if you do not check in or out properly with your valid ticket, such as an OV student card or season ticket. Your OV chip card is therefore only valid once you have checked in! So even if you are a pupil, student or commuter and you have a subscription, you always have to check in and out.

The fine for fare evasion on the train, bus, tram or metro must be equated with offenses such as theft. A fine can range from 20 euros to 500 euros. The amount of your fine depends on your violation ( type 1 , type 2 of type 3 ) and whether you have already been fined in the past 12 months. If the inspection staff establishes a violation, your identity will be established and an official report will be drawn up.

At the time of the check you will also receive a folder with your official report number. Within 14 days after determination the draft decision is sent by post. You can also appeal against a fine. Send a (registered) letter or email to the Administrative Fines department.
