Municipalities are doing more and more to encourage the use of cleaner transport. This is in view of the climate agreement that from 2030 all new cars must be emission-free. For example, there are emission-free zones in more and more municipalities. The Municipality of The Hague has again this year made an exchange scheme for old polluting petrol mopeds, petrol mopeds and diesel cars available to residents of the Municipality of The Hague. This year the municipality has 325.000 euros available for this exchange scheme. The exchange scheme is in principle available until 30 November, unless the money runs out earlier.

Residents can exchange their polluting vehicle for a cleaner form of transport. They receive a credit that can be used for public transport, this credit is then put on the public transport card. You can also use the credit to use shared cars, shared scooters or shared bicycles. The credit can also be used to buy an electric moped, moped or an (electric) bicycle. Entrepreneurs can use the credit for transport services. For mopeds and mopeds you get 400 euros back, if you have an Ooievaarspas you get 750 euros back. For a diesel passenger car you get 1000 euros back, with an Ooievaarspas you get 1200 euros back. Entrepreneurs get 1500 euros back for their diesel delivery van. This credit is higher this year than last year, because an old delivery van emits much more particulate matter and the municipality wants to reduce polluting transport as much as possible.

This year, the municipality of Utrecht has again made a demolition subsidy available to residents and entrepreneurs who have a diesel passenger car or delivery van with emission class 3 or lower and want to have it scrapped. The grant is available until June 30, unless the money runs out earlier. After approval by the municipality, you will receive a grant decision and you can have your car demolished at a demolition company recognized by the RDW. There are a few conditions and requirements that you must meet in order to be eligible for this scrapping subsidy. You will receive a subsidy of 1000 euros for a diesel passenger car or van with emission class 3. For diesel cars with emission class 2 and lower, you will receive 500 euros. You can spend this subsidy on an electric bicycle, electric scooter, shared transport, public transport subscription or an electric car. Residents with a U-pass can receive an extra 200 euros for their vehicle. The municipality of Utrecht has EUR 1000.000 in scrapping subsidy available for this year, EUR 700.000 of which is available for residents with passenger cars and EUR 300.000 is available for companies with delivery vans.
