After weeks of fog and wetness, the first official storm of 2022 has arrived today for a change. Today, the KNMI has even announced code orange for North Holland, Friesland and the Wadden area and code yellow for the rest of the Netherlands due to storm Corrie. People are advised not to hit the road today if it is not necessary. Schiphol's website states that flights to and from Schiphol can be delayed and many flights have already been canceled due to the strong wind and storm. ProRail expects the biggest problems today, such as branches on the rails and overhead wires in North Holland. They also report that fewer trains are running on the Den Helder-Zaandam route today, 4 intercity trains per hour normally run on this route and now due to the storm there are 2 until 15:00 PM this afternoon. They are also ready with breakdown teams and auxiliary locomotives should problems arise.

The KNMI warns of wind gusts of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour from Monday morning. In the northwestern half of the country, wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour can occur, on the coast even up to 120 kilometers per hour. Road users must therefore take this into account. Wind gusts can overtake you, especially on bridges and viaducts, so you have to be extra alert and keep both hands on the wheel. Trucks, motorhomes, cars with trailers or caravans suffer extra from the wind and can end up in dangerous situations. Adjust your speed and keep more distance from your predecessor so that you have more time to act if something goes wrong. Several test streets and vaccination locations in our country have also been closed as a precaution due to the storm. The advice is to stay at home and not go out on the road.
