SHARE NOW, the European market leader in carsharing, can look back on a successful year despite the corona pandemic. In 2021, the joint venture between BMW Group and Daimler AG will add 10.000 new users in Amsterdam, where the car-sharing service has been operating with a 2011% electric fleet since 100. The cities of Amstelveen and Rotterdam are also benefiting from the success of SHARE NOW. Two shared car hubs have been opened in Rotterdam, making it possible to travel between Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

“In 2021 we were able to respond even better to the demand and wishes of our Dutch users. In the capital, we have expanded the SHARE NOW offer in several areas. Last year, more than 100 shared cars were added to the fleet and the working area was expanded to 62 km2. Not only with new neighborhoods in Amsterdam's Noord and Nieuw-West districts, but also with two hubs in Rotterdam – something we are very proud of. Despite the corona pandemic, we can look back on a successful year in which we strengthened our business model.”

More kilometers per trip and longer periods
SHARE NOW has been noticing changes in user behavior for quite some time now. In 2021, more kilometers were covered per trip and the cars were rented for increasingly longer periods. In Amsterdam, the average distance increased by 12% to 11,5 kilometers per car. The average journey time increased by 4,4% to 40 minutes per journey. In order to respond to the needs of the – now 104.000 – users, SHARE NOW introduced long-term carsharing at the end of 2021. This makes it possible to rent a shared car for up to 30 days and to book it in advance.

Prior to this introduction, significant investments were made in 2021 in the range of electric shared cars. New electric smart EQs, Fiat 500e and long-range BMW i3s were added steadily. In a year's time, the fleet has expanded to 400 electric shared cars, which means that even longer distances can be covered. The smart EQ was the most popular model last year, but the BMW i3 turned out to be the most often used for long journeys, according to SHARE NOW.

"This year, SHARE NOW wants to continue the positive development of the past year. 2021 was a special year for us in which we celebrated our 10-year anniversary in Amsterdam, but we are not thinking about it in 2022 either. We will continue to sail the same course and focus continuously on sustainable growth. At SHARE NOW, we believe in sharing more and owning less, so that we can make our cities more livable for residents and keep mobility as individual and flexible as possible. Close cooperation with the municipalities in which SHARE NOW operates helps us to give a boost to emission-free mobility and shared transport.”
