Up to and including November 2021, 14.948 new motorcycles were sold, the highest number since 2008. According to figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC, 6,8 percent more two-wheelers left the showrooms than in the first eleven months of last year. Demand for motorcycles has continued to increase since the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

Last month the number of registrations was 580, or 11,5 percent more than in November 2020. Yamaha delivered the most motorcycles until the penultimate month of the year with 2.272 units, good for a market share of 15,2 percent. The Japanese brand is closely followed by BMW with 2.240 registrations and a 15,0 percent share, while Kawasaki at some distance completes the top three (2.018 copies and 13,5 percent market share). Compared to last year, the number of new motorcycles with electric drive has increased marginally: 236 to 215 units and 1,6 to 1,5 percent share of sales.

According to the RAI Association, the engine in 2021 fits the wishes of many travelers. It is a practical and sustainable alternative that allows you to quickly travel from A to B in and around cities and parking is often no problem. In addition, the engine also fits in well with the continuing need for individual transport.

More motorcycles than ever in the Netherlands
The sale of second-hand motorcycles by the specialist trade reached a record level of 49.642 units up to and including November this year. That is a minimal increase of 0,4 percent compared to the same period in 2020. Trade in used cars between private individuals fell by more than 9 percent this year compared to the first eleven months last year, to 79.454 transactions. On December 1, there were 774.992 motorcycles in the Netherlands; more than 15.000 more than at the beginning of this year and the highest number ever. 1.146 engines have an electric powertrain, according to Royal RAI Association.
