After years of legal battle, the municipality of Amsterdam ended announced on Tuesday which ships may (continue to) sail for a period of ten years from 2024. The new system has room for 550 permits, of which the first 155 were raffled. New operating licenses for passenger shipping could be applied for in September 2020 with effect from March 2024. This process has now been completed. On March 16, 2021, all applicants for a license were informed of the result of the registration. A total of 155 new permits have been issued for vessels capable of sailing from 1 March 2024.
