It is a bit busier in the city again, but the taxi drivers hardly notice it. Yet the concerns are not over for the time being. The rise of taxi apps has made the taxi more popular among Amsterdammers and visitors to the city. Despite the corona crisis, which hit the sector hard, the City of Amsterdam is working behind the scenes on new regulations for the Amsterdam taxi sector. Residents are calling for the municipality to take more control over the taxi market.

With the new rules, the municipality of Amsterdam wants a level playing field for the entire taxi market and no distinction is made between the boarding and delivery markets. It will be determined per area which type of taxi transport is permitted and under what conditions this is. The taxi in Amsterdam must remain a safe and reliable means of transport for Amsterdammers and visitors.

Residents

Both individual residents and groups of residents have given a participation response. Responses from residents of the city center are largely about the nuisance and traffic safety caused by the large number of taxis in Amsterdam. These residents experience nuisance due to noise, odor, honking and aggressive treatment. Residents argue for fewer taxis. Have further many responses relate to unsafe driving behavior, both on the canals and on the scheduled bus lane.

the industry

A number of individual drivers / entrepreneurs from the sector have responded as well as Uber and KNV (Royal Dutch Transport, the sector organization). A number of the individual participants are affiliated with a TTO and this is unknown for a number. The industry is calling for a rapid introduction of equal
rules for all drivers and intermediaries, with as little administrative burden as possible, and for more space for the taxi in the city.

The seven city boroughs give positive advice about the policy proposal and draw attention to specific bottlenecks in their area. They would like to be involved in the further implementation of the Agenda Taxi 2020 - 2025, especially when it comes to designing intelligent access for taxis, new forms of parking and buffer places.
