Second Chamber Political parties Christian Union and D66 have made a proposal to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen to introduce a minimum price for air tickets. They want air tickets in the Netherlands to be offered no cheaper than 34 euros. They want this because they are afraid that after the corona crisis airlines will offer tickets for dump prices to fill aircraft. They are also afraid that airlines will compete with each other to maintain their flight rights at Schiphol. Flying a lot is bad for the environment.

"There is a good chance that after the crisis, companies will try to keep routes," D66 MP Jan Paternotte told the NOS. “To fill those planes, they stunt with tickets. They are going to dump them far below cost. ” A lot of flying, especially at short distances, has great environmental consequences, according to Paternotte. ”

The two sides believe that the dumping prices for airline tickets is an unfair battle compared to traveling by bus and traveling by train. Today there is one consultation in the House of Representatives on the aviation bill with the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management. Airlines have expressed their views on this issue in various media. Several airlines do not think that the price increase measure has environmental benefits and that airlines are not encouraged to fly more economically, on the contrary. The Austrian government also announced earlier that they make it a condition that a flight ticket must now cost at least 40 euros in exchange for state aid for the airline Austrian Airlines. We now have to wait and see what our government decides.

Transavia disputes that it sells tickets for dump prices. “We have fair prices for our products. We also want to be profitable to invest, for example in sustainability. Controlling prices from the outside does not help the market to perform as optimally as possible, ”says a spokesman.
