Since this week, individuals are eligible for a subsidy if they buy an electric car or lease privately. This grant is also known as: Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars Individuals or SEPP. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced this on their website today. Our cabinet wants to entice Dutch motorists to purchase an electric car. This is to reduce the CO2 emissions of current cars in our country. Electric cars are more economical and contribute to clean air. Individuals can receive a one-off subsidy of € 4000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car. When purchasing or leasing a used electric car, this is € 2000.

There are a number of conditions attached to this subsidy scheme. The electric car must meet the following conditions, among others. It must be a 100% electric passenger car with a range of at least 120 kilometers. The list price (original new price) must not be less than € 12.000 and not higher than € 45.000. The car was produced as an electric passenger car and may not be converted into an electric car.

The electric car must be on the SEPP 2020 car list. All conditions are on the website of the RVO. From 1 July, private individuals can submit their subsidy application after they have concluded a purchase or lease agreement. The subsidy scheme is spread over the year 2020 to 2025. The budget this year is 17,2 million Euro. The budgets for the coming years are not yet known.

State Secretary Van Veldhoven (Infrastructure and Water Management): “It is important that clean driving is accessible to people. With this subsidy I want to give them a helping hand, so that they can choose an electric car. New or second-hand. The more people who drive electric vehicles instead of fossils, the cleaner our air and the less greenhouse gas emissions ”.
