The unions have consulted with the NS about the many incidents last weekend. Ever since the start of 'intelligent lockdown', we have seen that nuisance and the number of incidents are increasing. This consultation has shown that all parties see the usefulness and necessity of additional measures to protect all NS employees in their position.

The unions have shared all received signals with NS. NS is now deliberating and will come next Thursday with additional measures to protect employees. The unions urgently appealed to NS to discuss the matter with the responsible ministers. The safety of the railway workers must now really be a priority. The unions therefore argue in favor of making trains accessible only to employees of crucial professions by means of a special ticket.

The trade unions also believe that there should be clarity about enforcement. Who is responsible for what and then how? During a telephone consultation with trade unions on Tuesday morning, NS indicated that from last Thursday onwards, they will already be in consultation with all other public transport companies and the Ministries of Justice and Infrastructure & Water Management. NS expects to be able to provide more clarity on enforcement issues next Thursday. In the meantime, NS will deploy more security guards to support the V&S employees in order to increase visibility in particular
The unions are of the opinion that all NS employees, in whatever position, have the right to a safe workplace. Despite the fact that there are many trains that are almost empty, the FNV is still too often concerned that there is a crowded train. It often seems that this is no longer just about employees from crucial sectors. Aggression and violence cause a lot of frustration and worry for the hard-working NS employees.
“Please keep supporting each other. You are a unit that keeps NS going. Appropriate solutions in these bizarre situations are the responsibility of the employer and not colleagues. And if these are not there, our starting point remains: you work safely or you do not work! ”, Says FNV.
