Rotterdam councilors criticize the timing of the price increase of the metro. The price of a metro ride must increase by fifteen percent, but Liveable Rotterdam does not find that negotiable. The VVD first wants to focus on the corona crisis. Ingrid Smits van Rijnmond writes given by price increases would be necessary to maintain the quality of public transport.

"Now is not the time to come up with such a plan," says Robert Simons of the opposition party Leefbaar Rotterdam. “We are in a situation where entrepreneurs cannot sleep at night because of all the malaise and people may not even be able to pay their rent in a few weeks. And what does the college say? We are going to increase the metro price! That does not show great empathy. ”

Passenger organization Rover says that the price increase of metro or public transport is at odds with stimulating public transport use. The rates have risen faster than the car costs in recent years.

“We do have some proposals for the region, because we know that the rates are being looked at. For example, we see more to simplify the rates by, for example, coming up with a public transport subscription for the entire region, ”said a spokesperson at Rijnmond.
