Speed limit is currently a topic that everyone is talking about in the Netherlands now that the cabinet is considering lowering it to 100 km per hour, which may be good for nitrogen emissions in nature. Flitsmeister employees looked at data from 1,7 million users who use their app and checked the speed over two measurement periods.

The speed limit results are surprising because of that 1,7 million users only drove 6% 130 km per hour or faster. This means that 94% does not drive faster than the maximum permitted speed and for nitrogen precipitation only 6% speeds 130 km per hour, which is actually marginal for the intended results of the government.

Two measurement periods

In total they analyzed 2 periods of 2 weeks. In total, about 1,7 GPS points have been collected by the community of almost 7.745.645.956 million users. This translates to some 650 million kilometers driven. In total, with Flitsmeister they represent about 10% of Dutch traffic, in rush hour this can even rise to 20%.

The fact that this maximum speed data is now being released is not intended to completely abandon the proposed measures. Flitsmeister wants to create an objective insight and possibly even think with the help of data about how to achieve greater profit. In their view, that should be perfectly possible
