In Ghent three Albatro trams no longer drive around because they have no wheels. The supplier of the parts for this type of tram is delayed. The problem should be resolved by the end of next week. Ships of Mobility Filip Watteeuw (Green) is not pleased with the situation.

Twenty Albratro trams have been operating in Ghent in Flanders since 2015. These are modern low-floor trams of 60 meters long. The wheel tires of the tram are now in need of replacement and the delivery for new tires takes longer than expected. As a result, three of those trams, each of which cost more than 3 million euros, can no longer leave and remain in the Gentbrugge depot because De Lijn has no wheel tires in stock.

“Our supplier has already supplied steel wheel tires,” says Sonja Loos of De Lijn. “But he has forgotten the rubber part. So we had to wait extra long. In the meantime, the rubber part has been delivered and the trams can be repaired. We expect them to drive again at the end of next week. ”

Although there are normally about 20 Albatrosses driving around in the city, some old trams from the XNUMXs were dusted up to jump in. They quickly became packed and passengers with a wheelchair could not or hardly get on board the tram.
