Despite the consequences of the corona crisis, many companies continue to improve and innovate. The Dutch Railways does the same. Even though the corona crisis has huge consequences for the number of travelers, they are still looking ahead. The Dutch Railways reports that in the future they will run the Airport Sprinter between Amsterdam Central and Schiphol and Hoofddorp. The intention is that this Sprinter will run eight times per hour in each direction between Amsterdam Central and Schiphol and Hoofddorp. This train then runs every six to nine minutes and provides a comfortable and fast connection.

The difference on this Airport Sprinter is that the driver is responsible for closing the train doors and the conductor focuses on checking and servicing the train passengers. Normally, a conductor closes the train doors. The bottom line is that one person is fully responsible for the departure process. This would ensure that the Sprinter is even more punctual and faster and that more trains can run on this connection. To realize this faster connection in the future, the NS do some technical adjustments in a number of new sprinters. With, among other things, the technical adjustments for safely closing the train doors, the departure process can be completely in the hands of one person. This technique and associated processes will be carefully tested by means of test drives and experiments.
