Ryanair pilots, based at Charleroi airport, are preparing for their third strike in a month. This action will take place on August 14 and 15, in protest against the unilateral schedules that the airline, according to them, imposes.
“As long as Ryanair continues to blackmail the pilots with illegal proposals, we must continue to strike,” said one spokesman of the ACV trade union. Despite two previous strikes this month resulting in around 220 flight cancellations, Ryanair management has yet to make any proposals to meet pilots' demands.
Travelers are once again left out in the cold, with the choice of rebooking their flight or requesting a refund. "We want to fly, but we also want to be treated with respect," the pilots' spokesperson added.
The pilots based in Belgium are taking action because they want more pay.
It remains unclear what the impact of the strike will be. Ryanair gave an update on the progress of the flights 48 hours in advance during the previous strikes. Society remains silent about possible solutions or an end to the dispute. At Zaventem, Ryanair only flies with pilots who work from foreign airports.
For passengers whose flight is canceled or delayed by more than three hours, there is a right to compensation in addition to the ticket refund. This additional compensation varies between 250 and 600 euros, depending on the length of the trip, but is only granted if the flight is canceled less than 14 days in advance.
