An exciting development is about to become reality at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

In the coming weeks, tests will begin with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz AD (Autonomous Driving) on public roads in Munich. This development offers policymakers, politicians, journalists and representatives of the business community the opportunity to experience the potential of the technology for themselves. At the same time, Volkswagen will also launch a test program in Texas, USA.

The focus is on commercial applications of these self-driving vehicles in major cities in Europe and North America. This will be in the form of carpool programs and transportation services. The intention is that the technology will also be tested, validated and refined on American roads. Policymakers, politicians and media on both continents will also have the opportunity to experience for themselves on public roads what the fully electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz AD has to offer.

The ID. Buzz AD features a self-driving system from Mobileye and is ready for mass production once the technology is ready. The test models are classified as level 4 vehicles according to the SAE standard and are equipped with cameras, radars and lidar technology. During the test period there will always be a supervisor on board who can take over control if necessary. The vehicle seats four passengers and collects mileage data in different driving scenarios.

MOIA, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group specialized in mobility services, is contributing to the development. They have already carried more than 2019 million passengers since their inception in 8,5, bringing valuable experience and insight.

The launch of the testing program in Texas by the Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) is a new impetus for the Volkswagen Group's global research and development of autonomous vehicles. VWGoA will lead the project in the US and has established Volkswagen ADMT, LLC to support the program. Unlike in Germany, where MOIA will be the first to deploy the autonomous vehicles, the Volkswagen Group will not offer autonomous transportation services in the US itself. These services are performed in the US by third parties in the mobility and transportation industry.
