As the first female president of UITP, the topics of diversity and inclusion and a better gender balance in the sector are close to Renée's heart.

During the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Barcelona, ​​this honor fell to Renée Amilcar, General Manager of OC TRANSPO in Ottawa, Canada. Amilcar has thus become the first female president in the association's 138-year history.

Renée began her career in Montreal, where she spent nearly two decades at the Société de Transport de Montreal in various leadership positions. She moved to Ottawa to lead urban public transportation initiatives there.

She was educated at the Polytechnique Montréal and the University of Sherbrooke, and in 2018 she was awarded the Leadership Femme d'exception by the Chamber of Commerce of Quebec. Renée has been an active member of UITP's Executive Committee since 2019, where she represents the bus industry. In addition, she has chaired the UITP Bus Assembly, where she shared her extensive knowledge of the sector with our members.

I have always valued my connection to the association and I take on this new role with excitement, enthusiasm and a desire to help UITP move forward in any way I can. do my very best to represent the association with merit and to involve as many international members as possible. As the first female president of UITP, the topics of diversity and inclusion and a better gender balance in the sector are close to Renée's heart. She will work with our staff and members to raise awareness of what needs to be done to bring more women into public transport as valued employees at all levels. The new chair took an active role in UITP's output for International Women's Day in 2023 and will work closely with UITP to further spread that message through our overarching focus on Women in Leadership.

This year, at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit (Barcelona, ​​June 4-7), that honor fell to Renée Amilcar.

With the inauguration of a new chairman also comes the departure of the current one who has traveled extensively for UITP. That honor had been bestowed for the past two years on Khalid ALHOGAIL, CEO and Managing Director of SAPTCO, the Saudi Arabia Public Transport Company. The chairman's term officially came to an end when the UITP Global Public Transport Summit concluded on June 7, 2023, allowing Amilcar's era to begin on June 8.
