The Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) will carry out urgent repairs to the road surface of the R2 in the coming days. Shortly before the entrance to the Frans Tijsmans tunnel, the concrete road surface is locally damaged in the direction of Ghent. In the coming days, traffic at this location will have to pass over one lane. The roadway will be fully reopened by Monday morning, March 20.
On the R2, damage was found to the concrete road surface just before the entrance to the Frans Tijsmans tunnel towards Ghent. A quick repair of the damaged concrete slab is necessary and will take place from tomorrow.
Last night, during the already planned tunnel closure of the Tijsmanstunnel in the direction of Ghent, the necessary site signaling was placed for the repair works. From Thursday morning, traffic on the R2 towards Ghent will have to pass over one lane instead of two. After the repair, the new section of road surface in concrete will have to harden for a while and no traffic will be able to drive over it. AWV expects to be able to reopen the right lane in the night of Sunday 19 to Monday 20 March.
The Kanaaldok B1/B2 (13) ramp towards Ghent will also be closed during this period. Traffic is diverted via the Noorderlaan (N180) to the Stabroek slip road (13) of the A12 and then take the connection to the R2.
