New engine sales reached the highest level in 2022 years in the first three quarters of 14.

According to figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC, the total number of motorcycles in the Netherlands on 1 October was 793.122. That is almost 18.000 more than last January 1 and 80.000 more than on January 1, 2015. New engine sales in the first three quarters of 2022 reached the highest level in 14 years.

Up to and including September, 13.574 new engines were registered this year. That is an increase of 1.087 percent compared to the same period last year. 5,5 new motorcycles were delivered in September, or 2021 percent less than in the same month in 2022. Registrations of electrically powered motorcycles doubled in the first three quarters of 336 compared to a year earlier, to 1.434 units. In total, the Netherlands now has 1 electric motors; twice as many as on January 2020, XNUMX. Manufacturers are going to put more and more zero-emission motorcycles on the market, not only with battery-electric drive but also powered by hydrogen, for example.

Commuting

More than one and a half million Dutch people have a motorcycle license; yet only half of them own a motorcycle. Since the start of the corona pandemic, more people are still buying their own motorcycle, partly because of the restrictions in public transport and for recreational purposes. In addition, for many it appears to be an ideal means of transport for commuting, especially now that traffic jams and parking problems are increasing again. Due to the mild winters of recent years, the weather conditions are hardly an obstacle to using the motorcycle almost every day.

The most registered motorcycle brands in 2022 up to and including September were:

  1. Yamaha with 2.002 registrations and 14,8 percent market share
  2. Kawasaki (1.759/13,0 percent)
  3. BMW (1.695 / 12,5 percent)
  4. Honda (1.611 / 11,9 percent)
  5. Suzuki (943 / 7,0 percent)

The most common motorcycle brands in the Netherlands on October 1, 2022:

  1. Honda with 167.875 units and 21,2 percent market share
  2. Yamaha (125.082 / 15,8 percent)
  3. BMW (99.023 / 12,5 percent)
  4. Suzuki (93.907 / 11,8 percent)
  5. Kawasaki (74.444/9,4 percent)
