Not only the Dutch airports are faced with a staff shortage as a result of the corona crisis. In recent weeks we have seen the chaos at Schiphol from queues outside the airport and travelers who had missed their flight because they did not get through customs on time. Transport organization Arriva now also indicates that they will no longer allow the Nightliners of Arriva to drive to and from Tilburg from the weekend of 14 and 15 May. Due to the limited availability of staff, it is currently not possible to continue to operate these night buses, which ran in the night from Saturday to Sunday between 02.00:04.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX.
The lines 847 (from and to Reeshof), 848 (from and to 's-Hertogenbosch) and 849 (from and to Udenhout) will be running for the last time this weekend. The Nightliners to and from Breda will continue to run. Due to the consequences of corona, there is a shortage of drivers at Arriva and cooperation partners and employment agencies also do not have enough drivers available for them. Arrives recently launched a recruitment campaign to restore employability.
De Dutch railways also states that it is struggling with staff shortages as a result of the corona crisis. Due to a shortage of chief conductors, they are forced to temporarily switch back the ten-minute train of the Arnhem – Schiphol – Rotterdam section, which started in December, to a quarter-hourly service from 13 June. The NS may have to take even more measures this summer. Most vacancies currently open are for Chief Conductor. NS uses shorter trains where it is allowed, because fewer conductors work on shorter trains. NS currently has a total of 1100 vacancies, spread across all business units and all professional groups on the train, at the station, in IT or at the office.
