Ghent is getting more shared bicycles. Donkey Republic, which has been active in Ghent for three years, will receive a new permit for 500 orange city bicycles. Mobit is coming to Ghent with 200 green city bikes and Dott with 600 blue electric bikes and no fewer than 150 electric cargo bikes. The City of Ghent wants to focus on a diverse range of sustainable means of transport, including shared bicycles.

Ghent therefore chose to issue a permit to three providers of bicycle sharing. Donkey Republic has been active in Ghent for three years, with between 350 and 500 bicycles depending on the time of year. The bicycle-sharing provider will receive a new permit for 500 orange city bicycles. The new bicycle sharing providers that will start up in the spring are Mobit and Dott. Mobit is coming to Ghent with 200 green city bikes. Dott will offer 600 blue electric bicycles and also 150 electric cargo bicycles through its subcontractor BAQME.

"The city is getting a lot of shared bicycles. The offer of electric bicycles and cargo bicycles in particular enriches the offer. Longer ride, need more shopping, less good mobility or transport children? Also for those who do not own an electric bicycle or cargo bike, there is now a solution for that."

The shared bicycles will be available at more locations than is currently the case, such as in the 19th-century belt and at Park&Rides. Users can borrow the shared bicycles via the applications of the shared bicycle providers. After borrowing, they must always return the shared bicycle to one of the many permanent parking places. These locations are determined in consultation with the City.
